If you’re looking for the perfect condiment to slather on some turkey sandwiches or for dipping pretzels, look no further! This cranberry honey mustard recipe is so easy and is the perfect complement to whatever you’re serving!
I created this recipe as a dupe for a sauce we served at a restaurant I worked at during college. It was so good that I would always ask the chef to serve my turkey sandwich with extra sauce. At first, they’d serve one of those little sauce cups, but eventually, they realized I needed a tiny bowl.
I’d dip my sandwich directly into this vat of sauce and love every single bite.
Every once in a while, I get a strong craving for that cranberry honey mustard. Nothing else is quite like it! Fortunately, this recipe is pretty darn close and makes a mean turkey sandwich.
What is cranberry honey mustard?
Basically, this is a condiment that takes honey mustard to the next level by adding dried cranberries. The slight bitterness of the tart cranberries plays off the sharpness of the mustard for a match made in heaven.
Although we love using dijon on our sandwiches year-round, this recipe is a nice change, especially for the holiday season. The cranberries really bring a whole new level of flavor!

How to make cranberry honey mustard
- Add the dried cranberries to a bowl. Cover with boiling water. Allow the dried cranberries to soak for 20-30 minutes or until plump.
- Strain the cranberries.
- Add all the ingredients to a food processor.
- Pulse at first, stirring to incorporate. Then, process until the mixture is incorporated and has a smooth texture.
- Add to 8 oz jars and store in the fridge until use.
How long does this cranberry honey mustard last in the fridge?
I’d plan on eating this condiment within about a week. Although dijon can last a long time, you do have fresh orange juice and we added water to the cranberries.
I like to make just enough for one batch and if I run out, I make another batch.
Do I have to soak my dried cranberries?
Here’s the thing…I created this recipe to make it extremely easy to make using ingredients you already have on hand. Few of us have canned cranberry sauce or fresh cranberries hanging out in our fridges year round.
It’s much more likely that we have dried cranberries. Although you can use dried cranberries without soaking them, they will be harder and you’re less likely to get a smooth, creamy sauce.
Soaking the berries takes only 15-20 minutes and really plumps them up! The added heat and moisture also help this mustard come together really nicely.
If you can’t soak your cranberries at all, you at least want to add 1-2 TBS of very hot or boiling water while you run your food processor.
The ground cranberries should soak up that additional moisture, although your sauce might be a little runnier than mine.
Why make cranberry honey mustard from scratch?
Sure, there are some tasty cranberry honey mustard products on the market, but in this instance, homemade is better.
Storebought products typically include highly processed ingredients like refined oils, stabilizers, and preservatives to keep them safe for a long time. For example, Dietz & Watson sell cranberry mustard which includes soybean oil. I’d much rather make my own using simple, everyday ingredients.
Plus, store-bought mustards often use plastic product packaging. We’re trying to live a low-waste lifestyle.
Can I use canned cranberry sauce in this?
Absolutely! Instead of dried cranberries, substitute leftover cranberry sauce. Be sure to taste the mixture as you go. Due to the additional sweetness of the cranberry sauce, I’d recommend not including any additional honey.
How can I use this cranberry honey mustard?
If you’re not partial to dipping your sandwich in a vat of this precious sauce, then you can use it as a condiment for roasted chicken breasts or a pork roast. It’s delicious on a bratwurst with sauerkraut!
It’s seriously perfect on a turkey sandwich or wraps, so be sure to save this recipe for your Thanksgiving leftovers!
How spicy is this cranberry honey mustard?
Although we love the medium heat of dijon mustard, not everyone feels the same way. This recipe is pretty mild. If you think about it, it’s more cranberries than mustard. Plus, the golden honey helps smooth out the flavor. There’s just a hint of that dijon flavor and minimal heat, if any.
