This comforting winter room spray recipe smells like a cozy cabin with this custom blend of essential oils. It also just so happens to take about 2 minutes to make, so perfect for last-minute gifting!

As someone who cannot use fragrance at all, homemade room sprays are a saving grace. They’re made with distilled water, vodka or witch hazel, and essential oils, which don’t trigger my sensitivities.
And this one? I may have outdone myself.
The layering of scents is so incredibly cozy.
The vanilla and cinnamon have this wrapped-up-in-a-blanket thing going on while the cedar gives you that woodsy scent.
The peppermint makes it feel like snow just started falling, and the orange offers a subtle back note and pop of freshness that you didn’t know you needed.
I’ve also put together some printable labels, so you can make your jars look just like mine!

Ingredients
- Vodka or witch hazel – I pretty much only ever use vodka because I have it on hand and you need so little. Plus, it really helps keep the mixture incorporated while preventing bacteria from growing.
- Distilled water – Although you can use all vodka, that adds up. Distilled water is much cheaper and works well.
- Essential oils – You’ll want to use pure essential oils. I often get questions about using fragrance oils and I never, ever use them so I’m not sure how well this recipe would translate.
The essential oil set I used for this spray
Although I typically use Rocky Mountain Oils and Plant Therapy for essential oils, I ran out of a couple key ones and needed to replenish.
For the cost of just two oils from other brands, I was able to get this whole set from Laguna Moon with 20 different oils!
It has vanilla, cinnamon, and many others that tend to be harder to find in gift sets.
Obviously, use whichever oils you prefer, but I’ve been so impressed with the versatility of this set!
How to Make Winter Room Spray

Step 1: Add the vodka or witch hazel to your bottle. Add the essential oils.

Step 2: Top off the jar with distilled water, leaving a small space at the top so you can shake it. Close the bottle and add a label or gift tag!

I like to print mine with my thermal label printer. Super quick!
Storing Suggestions
I always make room sprays in amber glass bottles since these preserve the quality of the essential oils.
They honestly last for SO long, especially with vodka, which helps keep any bacteria for growing. I’ve used room sprays even a year later and they still smell amazing!

Tips & Variations
- Adjust the oils. Feel free to add a little more of this or that, if you prefer.
- If you don’t have vanilla essential oil, you can actually try adding a little bit of vanilla extract.
- Use smaller bottles. This recipe was made for 4 oz spray bottles, but you can easily halve it and use 2 oz bottles instead. The labels fit both sizes just fine!
How to Use
Spritz generally around your rooms to freshen the scent and add a little cozy winter goodness.
I wouldn’t necessarily use it as a pillow spray (cinnamon is very warming), but it’s a great air freshener alternative!
(P.S. This lavender pillow spray makes a great option for fabrics.)
More Homemade Gift Ideas
This room spray is just one of many homemade gift ideas on the blog! Honestly, it would be perfect with a homemade beeswax candle and maybe a lotion bar to soothe dry winter skin.
Or, you can tuck it into a basket with some edible gifts, like hot chocolate in a jar or this ridiculously tasty hot caramel drink mix (think hot cocoa, but with caramelized sugar).
Honestly, there are so many options. You can’t go wrong!
