Fall is the very best time of year to bake and these from scratch baking recipes are proof! From melt-in-your-mouth cookies to moist cakes and tender quick breads, these autumn baking recipes will absolutely make you want to preheat your oven!

Thanks to the cooler temperatures, warm spices, and abundance of fresh produce, fall has always been my favorite time of year to bake.
Maybe it’s just because one of the first baking recipes I fell in love with was a moist apple cake, or the warm, cozy spices.
Or maybe it’s how how nice it feels to serve up something made from scratch and have people say “oh my god” before they finish the first bite.
Baking with the seasons just makes me happy, if we love these recipes, I’m sure you will too.
All my desserts are intentionally made from scratch, so no boxed mixes here, and I love to incorporate seasonal produce and spices whenever possible.
My Favorite Fall Baking Recipes

Fall Cakes

Moist Cinnamon Apple Cake
This is one is pure comfort food – soft, moist cake with plenty of morsels of apple and lots of warm spices. It makes a huge cake, so you’ll be eating off it for days!
Applesauce Yogurt Cake with Butterscotch Sauce
The yogurt and applesauce keep this cake soft and moist with deep flavor, and the homemade butterscotch sauce makes it utterly decadent.

Quick Breads and Muffins

Moist Pumpkin Bread with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
For the best flavor, make your own pumpkin pie spice then top the whole thing in a not-too-sweet cream cheese frosting for balance.
Sourdough Pumpkin Muffins
Topped with cinnamon sugar, these muffins are soft, moist, and seasoned with the perfect blend of warm spices.
Ginger Pear Muffins
Candied ginger is one of my favorite baking ingredients for fall and it really works with the flavor of fresh pear.

Fall Scones

The Best Maple Scones
These tender, flaky maple scones are delicious on their own, but the buttery maple glaze really makes the maple flavor stand out. So delicious with a hot cup of coffee!
Apple Crumble Scones
Instead of just regular apple scones, we’re going to add a crumble topping and a tangy, fresh apple glaze. So good!
Glazed Cardamom Scones
Sour cream makes these scones extra soft, but it’s the combination of cardamom extract and cardamom sugar that really brings the flavor.
Bleu Cheese Scones with Pear and Walnut
These savory scones straddle the line between sweet and savory. The blue cheese bakes into a salty note that makes the pears pop.
Apple Cider Scones
With lots of fresh apple in the scone dough and a fresh apple glaze, these warm apple scones have a bold fall flavor you’ll keep coming back to.

Fall Cookies and Bars

Chewy Maple Pecan Cookies
It took about 10 tests to get this recipe just right with the perfect bite on the outside and a soft, chewy center. The combination of browned butter, maple syrup, and pecans is just heavenly.
Maple Pecan Blondies
You will not believe these blondies come together in just one bowl! The secret is to sprinkle a little maple sugar and extra pecans on top for extra texture and flavor.
Apple Butter Thumbprint Cookies
These soft, shortbread-style cookies have homemade apple butter in the cookie dough and dolloped in the center so you get layers of warmth in every bite.
Soft and Chewy Apple Cider Cookies
The secret to the chewiest apple cider cookies? Boiled apple cider syrup cooked until it turns into a thick apple molasses. The texture and flavor are irresistible.
Sweet + Chewy Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal Cookies
With brown sugar, warm spices, and lots of dried cranberries, these cranberry oatmeal cookies are soft, sweet, and perfectly chewy.
Brown Sugar Apple Blondies
Although this recipe may look humble, it is actually one of my all-time favorite fall recipes. The bars are chewy on the outside, soft on the inside, and have so much apple flavor.
I make these all the time, and people always tell me they taste “heavenly!”
Honey Gingerbread Cookies
You may consider gingerbread a winter treat, but these milder honey gingerbread cookies have familiar fall flavors. We love to keep them on hand to nibble with a cup of coffee for a nice afternoon treat.
Chewy Snickerdoodle Blondies
These blondies are made with vanilla and almond extract for a warm, buttery flavor, and topped with lots of cinnamon sugar for that classic snickerdoodle taste.

Crisps, Cobblers, and Crumbles

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Crumble
Instead of making regular pumpkin pie, try this maple-sweetened version with a brown sugar pecan crumble on top. The topping adds so much more texture while the homemade pumpkin pie base delivers a creamy, nostalgic flavor.
Pecan Pie Cobbler
If you’re intimidated by making pie crust or want a different way to serve pecan pie, you’ll definitely want to give this one a go.
The not-too-sweet cobbler layer bakes over the maple pecan pie filling, and the whole thing is best served warm with a little vanilla ice cream.
Old Fashioned Apple Crisp
This is easily the most beloved recipe on the entire blog! We love this apple crisp recipe so much that we served it at our wedding.
Brown Sugar Pear Crumble
The combination of fresh pears and spices plus a buttery brown sugar crumble really could not be easier, but it’s easily one of the best fall recipes. I think about this recipe all the time!

Pies and Tarts

Rustic Apple Galette
A galette is simply a rustic, open-faced pie, and this one uses homemade flaky pastry for lots of layers. Serve warm with homemade caramel sauce.
Bourbon Butterscotch Pudding Pie
After years of making this recipe, it’s become a Thanksgiving classic. The homemade butterscotch pudding base is incredibly easy to make, but it’s the cream cheese whipped cream that really balances it out.
Puddings
Pumpkin Pie Pudding Cups
If you’re looking for a dessert with lots of fall flavor and minimal sugar, these maple-sweetened pudding cups are just the thing. Serve cold with a little maple whipped cream.
