If you're into thick, moist, and delicious brownies, this homemade brownie mix is perfect! Keeping a jar in the pantry makes it easy to throw together a batch at a moment's notice without having to fuss with pulling out a bunch of ingredients. We like to keep several in the pantry at all times, but also love to share these with friends and family as a homemade gift! Great for holiday gift baskets, housewarmings, and more.
In a quart mason jar fitted with a canning funnel, add the dry ingredients in any order (I usually alternate white and brown ingredients for color contrast). Seal and attach a printable tag to have the rest of the instructions handy.
1 1/4 cup sugar, 2/3 cup cocoa powder, 1 cup flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp kosher salt, 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Bake the brownies
Preheat oven to 325F. Either oil a square 9x9 metal baking pan or line with parchment paper. Set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the jar of brownie mix with wet ingredients. Stir just until combined.
1 quart jar brownie mix, 1/2 cup melted butter, 2 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 cup water
Transfer the batter into the pan and spread evenly. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out just barely clean.
Cool in the pan before slicing and serving.
Notes
These brownies are THICK, which is how I like them. Be sure to bake until a toothpick comes out just barely clean and let them cool at room temperature to set up. For the best results, use the dry mixes within 3-6 months. The printable tags and recipe cards are available here.
