In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Set on the stovetop over medium heat and cook until the sugar dissolves.
Add the berries to the mixture and simmer (not boil) for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally. You can use a potato masher to help break down the blackberries.
Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature before straining.
Place the funnel in your glass jar and set the fine mesh sieve on top. Pour the syrup through the strainer and press any extra syrup out of the berries.
Add to your favorite drinks and enjoy!
